Pie chart

Pie charts help you visualize proportions. Each pie slice represents a part of the whole, based on a column (the label) and a value (the measure).

You can:

  • Change the chart title and description

  • Choose the label (what each pie slice represents)

  • Choose the measure (which value is counted for each slice)

  • Switch between pie chart and donut chart styles

The pie chart is an excellent way to show how different parts make up a whole. It's particularly useful when you want to compare categories - for example, how many customers come from each country.

You can choose between two styles: a classic pie chart or a donut chart (with a hole in the middle). Both work the same way — just choose whichever looks better for your data.

How to create a pie chart

  1. Go to the Chart tab.

  2. Select Pie chart from the Chart type dropdown menu.

  3. Decide whether you want a pie chart or a donut chart.

  4. Set your label and measure.

Label

The label defines what each pie slice represents — typically a category like:

  • Country

  • Product

  • Region

Example: If your label is Country, the chart will show one slice per country.

Measure

The measure defines how large each pie slice is. It must be a number — for example:

  • Number of customers

  • Revenue

  • Average score

Example: If your measure is Number of customers, countries with more customers get a larger slice.

Customizing title and description

In the upper area of the chart settings, you can:

  • Change the title (default is the name of the insight)

  • Add a description to explain what the chart shows

This is useful when you want to display or export the chart later.

When to use a pie chart

Pie charts work best when:

  • You have few categories (4-8)

  • The differences between values are meaningful

  • You want to compare parts of a whole

If you have too many categories, it's better to use a bar chart instead. It's easier to read.
