Pie chart
Pie charts help you visualize proportions. Each pie slice represents a part of the whole, based on a column (the label) and a value (the measure).
You can:
Change the chart title and description
Choose the label (what each pie slice represents)
Choose the measure (which value is counted for each slice)
Switch between pie chart and donut chart styles
The pie chart is an excellent way to show how different parts make up a whole. It's particularly useful when you want to compare categories - for example, how many customers come from each country.
You can choose between two styles: a classic pie chart or a donut chart (with a hole in the middle). Both work the same way — just choose whichever looks better for your data.
How to create a pie chart
Go to the Chart tab.
Select Pie chart from the Chart type dropdown menu.
Decide whether you want a pie chart or a donut chart.
Set your label and measure.
Label
The label defines what each pie slice represents — typically a category like:
Country
Product
Region
Example:
If your label is Country
, the chart will show one slice per country.
Measure
The measure defines how large each pie slice is. It must be a number — for example:
Number of customers
Revenue
Average score
Example: If your measure is Number of customers
, countries with more customers get a larger slice.
Customizing title and description
In the upper area of the chart settings, you can:
Change the title (default is the name of the insight)
Add a description to explain what the chart shows
This is useful when you want to display or export the chart later.
When to use a pie chart
Pie charts work best when:
You have few categories (4-8)
The differences between values are meaningful
You want to compare parts of a whole
If you have too many categories, it's better to use a bar chart instead. It's easier to read.
