Advanced settings
Fine-tune defaults, visibility, and how global filters behave for viewers.
Beyond type and input controls, report filters include additional toggles that let you fine-tune the end-user experience. You’ll find these options in the Settings tab of the filter configuration.
Set a default value
Enable Default value to prefill the filter whenever someone opens the report.
Text and number filters: Enter a value manually.
Dropdown filters: Pick from the configured options.
Date filters: Choose a date from the calendar.
⚠️ If Value always required is turned on, you must supply a default value.
Make the value mandatory
Flip on Value always required when users must choose a value before data is displayed. Use this when your SQL returns incomplete results without a filter. Viewers see a required indicator next to the filter.
Control visibility
The Show in filter bar toggle decides whether the filter appears in the global filter bar:
Enabled – the filter is visible to everyone at the top of the report.
Disabled – the filter stays hidden from the bar but remains available on connected visualizations, ideal for secondary controls.
During editing, hidden filters are marked with a crossed-out eye icon so you can identify them quickly.
Prevent local override
By default, viewers can temporarily change filter values directly on individual visualizations without affecting the global value. Enable Prevent local override when the global value should always win.
Changing the value on one widget updates the global filter immediately.
Local overrides disappear (including the reset button on the widget).
Perfect for official dashboards, exports, or any report that requires consistent numbers across pages.
